Priyanka Singh Rhea case: The case of providing late Sushant Singh Rajput with "fabricated prescription", filed by Rhea Chakraborty against his sister Priyanka Singh will not be cancelled. Listening to a plea filed by Singh to have the case quashed, India's Apex Court ruled that the FIR cannot be cancelled. Last month, the Bombay High Court too had refused to dismiss the case against Priyanka Singh.
The FIR was filed against Priyanka Singh on accounts of allegedly getting medications on a fake prescription for the actor. Two of Rajput's sisters Priyanka and Meetu Singh, were booked by the Bandra police in September 2020, based on a complaint by Rhea Chakraborty which accused them of procuring "a “bogus and unlawful” medical prescription for anxiety medication that was sent with the help of a Delhi-based doctor.
While the case against Meetu had been dismissed, the High Court had refused to do the same for Priyanka. "There is prima facie case found against Priyanka Singh and there should not be any impediment against investigation against her," said the high court bench ruling on the case. This verdict was then challenged by Priyanka Singh in the Supreme Court of India, the ruling on which came in today. After SC's refusal to thwart the complaint, the Central Bureau of Investigation will now take over the investigation against Priyanka Singh. This is because of a previous Supreme Court ruling which said that all FIRs related to the actor's death will be solely investigated by the CBI.
Actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai home in June last year. Following his death, multiple investigations were launched into the incident and the alleged drug abuse in the Hindi film industry. Currently three national investigation agencies - CBI, Enforcement Directorate and Narcotics Control Bureau are investigating the matter.
