Suhana Khan debut with Archie adaptation? Gully Boy director Zoya Akhtar will be headlining the Indian adaptation of the popular comic series The Archies. Although no official statement has been made on the cast for the film, according to media reports, daughters and grandsons of famous celebrities might be cast as the leads for the show.
As per the media reports, the cast might include Suhana Khan, daughter of Shah Rukh Khan; Khushi Kapoor, younger daughter of late actor Sridevi; and Agastya Nanda, grandson of Amitabh Bachchan.
Netflix India announced this collaboration on their social media feed but did not reveal the cast. The post read, "Get your milkshake ready because Archie and the gang are about to get down and desi in 'The Archies'. A coming-of-age musical drama directed by @zoieakhtar. Coming soon to Netflix! #TheArchiesOnNetflix." According to reports, the film is produced by Tiger Baby and Graphic India. It was five years ago that Graphic India got the right to adapt Archie Comics.
The announcement for the show was also shared on the social media of Zoya Akhtar and her regular collaborator Seema Kagti too. Celebrities like Maheep Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Sonakshi Sinha expressed their excitement about Akhtar's new project.
The Archie Comics is about the lives of four friends--Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge and Jughead Jones. The comic navigate their teenage life with a love triangle between Betty, Archie and Veronica.
In a statement, Zoya Akhtar said that she 'super excited' directed The Archies as it was a large part of her growing up years. Plus, the characters are not just iconic but also globally loved which makes her a little nervous but also nostalgic.
But the Archie Comic CEO/ Publisher Jon Goldwater has full faith in Zoya Akhtar as he believes she will 'deliver a truly unique and exciting take on Archie and friends through the lens of Indian cinema.' He too believes that the characters have global appeal and plans for more multimedia adaptation of it in future.
The drama will be based in 1960s India. There is no confirmation from Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Agastya Nanda or even Zoya Akhtar over their casting in the series so far.
