All about Sonia Rathee, Who Plays Masha In R Madhavan's Web Series Decoupled

Sonia Rathee Wiki Bio: Actor Sonia Rathee is in news for her new show Decoupled, in which she played the role of Masha, a crew member on a flight that R Madhavan's character Arya takes. The two later get into a casual relationship as Arya and his wife, played by Surveen Chawla, decide to have an open relationship till they gather the courage to tell their daughter about their decision to separate.

The show Decoupled is written and created by author Manu Joseph and released this month on Netflix. It is about a privileged couple played by Madhavan and Chawla, who has decided to go ahead with divorce but are clueless about how they can break the news to their daughter. Madhavan plays the role of a best selling author whose professional nemesis is Chetan Bhagat, while Chalwa plays the role of an investor. In the show, Masha meets Madhavan's Arya at an airport terminal and then begins their 'affair'.

The show, since it's released, has faced a mixed bag of reactions from viewers and reviewers. Some feel that it is layered, funny and points out the problems across the political spectrum of society, whether it be right or left, while others have simply found it regressive, biased and problematic. Many female viewers have also raised their voice against how most women in the web series are seen through a male gaze, and thus objectified.

From Princeton to Bollywood

The 25-year-old actor, who hails from Haryana, graduated from Princeton University in New Jersey. Although, she is not new to the film industry as her brother Ankur Rathee is an actor, who has been part of shows like Four More Shots, Made in Heaven and MOM: Misson Over Mars, amongst others.

Sonia Rathee made her debut as an actor in Ekta Kapoor produced show Broken But Beautiful 3. In the show, she acted opposite late actor Sidharth Shukla, who died after a heart attack this year.

The show also featured Ehan Bhat, Tanoya Karla and Saloni Khanna. It was released on May 29, 2021, on ALT Balaji and MX Player. The web series revolved around the love story between Rathee's character with Shukla's while portraying the ups and downs of being a couple.

Before this show, she was a production designer in Seeking Mr Brown and The Rat. She has also been a makeup artist for 100: The Tribute.  Speaking about her character in Broken But Beautiful 3, Rathee said, "It was a wonderful experience to play Rumi," while adding that the season would "keep everyone on their toes." Apart from these, she has also acted in a Filter Copy ">video opposite TV actor Vishal Vashishtha.

Apart from acting and production design, Rathee is a trained dancer. She has shot several videos with her brother Ankur Rathee. The actor also has a YouTube Channel where she uploads her dance videos and enjoys dancing to Bollywood songs.
