Shefali Razdan Duggal, an Indian-origin women's rights advocate and human rights activist, has been named as US President Joe Biden's envoy to the Netherlands. Duggal is currently a Western Regional Advisor at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, where she was appointed by former President Barack Obama. Here's everything you should know about her.
The White House, the President of the United States' official residence, recently made a series of announcements on administrative and diplomatic appointments. As part of this, Shefali Razdan Dugga, an Indian-origin political activist, was named as the country's envoy to the Netherlands as part of this.
Her nomination has now been sent to the Senate, according to the White House. “Duggal, of California, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Kingdom of the Netherlands,” it said.
Who Is Shefali Razdan Duggal?
- Shefali Razdan Duggal was born on November 22, 1971, and in November 2022, she will turn 51 years old.
- Duggal, a Kashmiri Pandit, was born in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, and came to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with her family when she was two years old. When she was five years old, she relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she grew up and went Sycamore High School.
- She graduated from Miami University in Ohio with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication and from New York University with a Master of Arts in Media Ecology.
- She is a political activist in the United States who is married to Rajat Duggal and resides in San Francisco. She is the mother of two children, as per reports.
- President Barack Obama appointed her to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, which oversees the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, for a term that ended in January 2018.
- She served on Emily's List as a board of directors, she also served on the Democratic National Committee as a Deputy National Finance Director, and the lastly served on Joe Biden's National Finance Committee in 2020.
- Duggal was also recently invited to join Wake Forest University's Leadership and Character Council (Winston-Salem, NC).
President Joe Biden nominated Duggal as Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands on March 11, 2022. Her nomination is awaiting Senate confirmation in the United States.
