Meet Shantanu Maheshwari, Hip Hop Dancer To Debut With Gangubai Kathiawadi

 The actor, dancer and choreographer Shantanu Maheshwari will make his debut with a motion picture directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In the film Gangubai Kathiawadi, he will be seen opposite actor Alia Bhatt as Gangubai's lover. The songs featuring him with Bhatt has already become a hit with viewers.

The audience caught the glimpse of the actor-dancer in songs from the film like Meri Jaan and Jab Saiyaan. However, Maheshwari's big Bollywood debut is going to be anything but smooth. Releasing theatrically on February 25, Gangubai Kathiawadi is in legal trouble as its protagonist's family has taken to the way her character has been portrayed as a prostitute in the film.

The film revolves around Gangubai, a young girl who is forced into prostitution and later becomes a social worker fighting for the rights of sex workers. The film also featured underworld don, Karim Lala, played by Ajay Devgn who endorsed Gangubai as his sister, giving her political leverage.

In the film, Shantanu Maheshwari will play the role of Ramnik Lal, who is her lover. However, the film's ">trailer suggests that the lovers do not have a happy ending to their romance, as Lal ends up marrying another woman and Gangubai attends the ceremony.

Personal Life

Born on March 7, Maheshwari will turn 31 this coming month. Talking to The Times Of India, he said that he has been in showbiz for ten years and has enjoyed both ups and downs that the industry offered him.

"Personally also, it has been great. Earlier, I was staying alone and then eventually with my parents," he said.

Career

Maheshwari made his debut in the entertainment industry with the serial Dil Dostii Dance as Swayam, on Channel V. The show also featured Kunwar Amar, Shakti Mohan, amongst others. He was then seen on Girls On Top along with Ayesha Adlakha, Saloni Chopra and Shruti Bapna, amongst others.

He was also part of a dance group called Desi Hoppers. The group won the international dance show World Of Dance. He has also taken part in reality shows like Nach Baliye and Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 8. In 2016, he was the second runner up in the reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 9.

When he was eight years old, he also participated in Kya Masti Kya Dhoom.
