Shakuntala Gupta: Everything We Know About Neena Gupta's Mother

Neena Gupta's mother Shakuntala Gupta: Actor Neena Gupta recently opened up about her mother Shakuntala Gupta's attempted suicide in her autobiography Sach Kahun Toh.

Gupta believes that her father was brave enough to marry her mother for love but being a dutiful son, he could not refuse when his father forced him to marry another woman from his community. This left her mother heartbroken and she tried to end her life.

1. Shakuntala Gupta was a Punjabi girl who tied the knot with Roop Narain Gupta, a man from a different caste. He was forced to marry a woman from his community and was torn between both families. He had two sons from the second marriage.
2. Neena Gupta in her autobiography has said, "My father was brave enough to marry my mother for love. But he was also a dutiful son who couldn't refuse when his father forced him to marry another woman from his community."
3. One of the chapters of her autobiography states that her father's betrayal shattered her mother. She was so terribly impacted that she tried to put an end to her life but thankfully did not succeed.
4. "This betrayal from my father shattered my mother to the extent that she actually tried (and thankfully failed) to end her life," said Gupta in her book.
5. The autobiography also talks about the absence of Gupta's father at home. It took her a while to realise that it was not normal for fathers to be present at home only for their meals.
6. Gupta's book also tells us how she understood later that her father spending nights with other women was not normal. The 'other woman' here refers to his second wife.
7. Kareena Kapoor Khan launched Neena Gupta's autobiography on June 14. In an Instagram video chat with Kapoor Khan, Gupta said that while writing the autobiography, she wondered if people would even be interested in reading about her. However, she believes that even if one person learns from her mistakes, it will be worth it.
