Shabaash Mithu: Witness Taapsee Pannu's Transformation Into Mithali Raj

Taapsee Pannu Mithali Raj transformation: Actor Taapsee Pannu underwent intense physical and on-field training to play the role of ace cricketer Mithali Raj for her upcoming film Shabaash Mithu. Even before she started shooting for her ambitious biopic, Pannu regularly shared behind the scenes (BTS) sneak peeks from her cricket practice sessions for the role.

Rajasthan-born Raj is considered one of the best women cricketers in the country. She is also a good bowler, specialising in right-arm leg breaks. The sporting icon is the Indian women’s ODI cricket team captain. While Pannu had signed the Mithali Raj biopic in 2019, her training only began earlier this year under coach Nooshin Al Khadeer.

On Wednesday, Pannu teased her fans with glimpses of her intense workout session for the film.

"Training during lockdown .... when open ground replaces gym. No excuses," she wrote.

The film's shooting commenced three days ago. “Let’s go.... Day 1 #ShabaashMithu #WomenInBlue”, Pannu wrote in her Insta post announcing the same.

However, it is not just her physical strength that Pannu has been working on to gear up for Shabaash Mithu. To fit the bill perfectly Pannu has been practising cricket under the watchful eyes of Khadeer, who is Raj's friend and a cricketer herself.

A week before that, she had posted the picture where she is seen playing “Down the line”. When filmmaker Anubhav Sinha asked her in the comment section: “Ab India khelegi kya?” Pannu replied to the Thappad director, “@anubhavsinhaa sir India ke liye toh khel rahi hu kabse. Bas field different hai.”

The 33-year-old actor seems to have taken well to the batting gear, an inseparable part of a batswoman's journey. In a previous interview, the actor has revealed that she knew very well the task that was cut up for her when it came to Raj's biopic. "Almost every time that she steps on to the pitch, she achieves something of value, something of worth," she said.

Earlier, the avid social media user shared another picture in which she is seen practising cover drive. "There is a lot of pressure to play her on-screen," Pannu previously said about starring as Mithali Raj. Perhaps practice is one way to beat the stress?

Shabaash Mithu is being directed by Rahul Dholakia and written by Priya Aven.

Last month, Pannu wrapped the shoot of Anurag Kashyap's Do Baaraa. In January, she finished filming on Rashmi Rocket, another sports drama. Apart from these films, Pannu will also be seen in Looop Lapeta and Haseen Dillruba.
