Shaakuntalam, the much-anticipated multi-lingual film’s trailer, was released on Monday by Guna Teamworks. The Samantha Ruth Prabhu starrer is a mythological drama. The film is directed, written, and produced by director Gunasekhar under Guna Teamworks and distributed by Sri Venkateshwara Creations.
Shaakuntalam will be Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s first big release of 2023. The actor was last seen in Yashoda in November 2022. The actor is back on screen after battling against an auto-immune condition called myositis last year. Last week, she shared a picture from Shaakuntalam's dubbing session. "Art is my cure to all this madness, sadness, and loss of belonging in the world, and through it, I’ll walk myself home—Nikki Rowe," read the picture’s caption. The film was scheduled to be released in November 2022 but was delayed so that the audience would be able to experience the mythological love story in 3D format. The pan-Indian film is set to release simultaneously in five languages – Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.

The film is based on an acclaimed Sanskrit play by Kalidasa called "Abhijnana Shakuntalam." Samantha Ruth Prabhu plays the titular character Shakuntala while actor Dev Mohan plays King Dushyanta opposite her.
