Actor Sanya Malhotra will be tracking down a bunch of missing jackfruit in her upcoming quirky comedy film Kathal. The actor, who will be playing the role of a cop in the film, shared the film's announcement video on social media today.
Malhotra was last seen in the romantic-thriller film Love Hotel, also featuring Vikrant Massey and Bobby Deol. The film, like two of Malhotra's previous films, also had an OTT release.
Malhotra took to her Instagram to announce the new project, with the caption, “Laapata k̶a̶t̶il̶ kathal ki talaash jaari hai! Kahi aapne unhe dekha? Dhoondhne aa rahe hai hum, Inspector Mahima."

The movie, being produced by Guneet Monga's Sikhya Entertainment and Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Films, also marks the directorial debut of Yashowardhan Mishra. Television actor Anant Joshi will be starring alongside Malhotra in the project. The film has been jointly written by Yashowardhan and Ashok Mishra.
Kathal is set in a small village, where a young ambitious police officer is strongarmed by a local politician to search for his missing and evidently precious jackfruits. Not much is known about the rest of the cast of Kathal. What we do know is that the film will be releasing exclusively on Netflix. The OTT giant too shared the announcement video for Kathal on social media.
This film will be Malhotra's fourth direct- digital release, and third one on Netflix. She was previously seen on the platform's direct releases like Ludo, Pagglait and Meenakshi Sundareshwar.
Speaking about producing the film, Monga said that she was absolutely thrilled to embark on this exciting journey. "At Sikhya Entertainment we strive to always produce unique, entertaining and heartwarming content that stands out," she further added. According to Monga, Kathal, like the fruit itself, will leave you with a sweet feeling that "we'll cherish in the coming times and we are so excited for everyone to see Sanya in a completely new avatar in this unconventional story." Interestingly Monga and Kapoor had produced Malhotra's 2021 film Pagglait as well. The actor received a lot of praise for her portrayal of a young widow who can't bring herself to grieve the untimely death of her husband.
