Her ex-husband fatally shot her in her apartment on Monday after she had shared details of their divorce on social media. He then turned the pistol on himself. Officers responded to a complaint for a welfare check at around 4:30 p.m. that day and proceeded to Sania Khan's apartment. According to a police report, the sound of a gunshot and a guy groaning could be heard when they arrived, as revealed by the Chicago Tribune. Here is all about the case.
Sania Khan Death Reason
- When the police entered, they discovered Sania Khan dead by the door. She had a gunshot wound to the back of her skull, a source informed the Chicago Sun-Times.
- Raheel Ahmad, her ex-husband, was found unconscious in a bedroom and suffering from a head wound. The Sun-Times said that the man had a firearm in his hand and a suicide note had been recovered nearby.
- When Ahmad arrived at Northwestern Hospital, doctors declared him dead.
- According to reports, Sania Khan's ex-husband, photographer Raheel Ahmed, may have killed her while she was despondent. After their divorce, Ahmed's mental health deteriorated.
- She and Ahmed split up and later separated last winter. He said nothing further about how they were related. As a result, Raheel departed on Monday afternoon. From Georgia, he made his way to Streeterville, where he shot and killed his ex-wife.
- The alleged shooter's family reported him missing on Monday afternoon, so Georgia police asked to check on his welfare. The cops went to the condo in the 200 blocks.
- The split between Sania Khan and Raheel Ahmed is identified as the incident's main cause. Domestic abuse is thought to have played a significant role in their divorce, according to the investigators.
- Sania was abused while she was living alone, which made it more difficult for her to get help.
- According to her website, Khan was a professional photographer who relocated to Chicago from Chattanooga in June 2021.
- In a TikTok post, she said, "It's painful to walk away from someone you once loved. But it's even more painful to love someone who is careless with your heart," adding in another post, "The way the community labels you, the lack of emotional support you receive, and the pressure to stay with someone because 'what will people say' is isolating. It makes it harder for women to leave a marriage that they shouldn't have been in, to begin with."
