Priyanka Chopra drops surname, what's wrong? Actor Priyanka Chopra dropped her surname from all social media handles on November 22. Being a married woman, who was using both her surnames, this is apparently a big deal, according to some media outlets and many are now speculating that all is not well in Chopra and Nick Jonas' marriage. But is that true?
Firstly, many news reports have been partial in their reporting, or at least in their headlines- the actor, who is gearing up for the release of her film The Matrix: Resurrections, has dropped both her surnames and is simply going by Priyanka on Instagram and Twitter.
One of Chopra's friends has revealed that she took the decision to go by her first name because that is what she wanted to go by in her future projects. Calling the divorce rumours "amusing", they told India Today, "Priyanka is using her first name because she wants to use that in her future projects. There is no truth to any other speculation. Also, she’s not only dropped 'Jonas' but 'Chopra' as well on social media."
Even her mother Madhu Chopra rubbished the news about the actor's alleged separation and urged the media to not spread rumours.
In July this year, it was reported by outlets that actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu had dropped Akkineni from her name, sparking rumours of her divorce from husband Naga Chaitanya. The actor had not only dropped her surname, but her name as well, and simply went by "S" on social media.
However, the news about the separation turned out to be true, as on October 2, Prabhu and Chaitanya announced in a statement that they had decided to part ways after four years of marriage. "We are fortunate to have a friendship of over a decade that was the very core of our relationship which we believe will always hold a special bond between us," the announcement said. Read more on that here. As of now, Samantha is using only her first name on social media.
