Prithviraj release postponed: Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar starrer Prithviraj's release has been postponed amidst rising COVID-19 cases, fuelled by new coronavirus variant Omicron, The film, directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, will mark Chhillar's debut as an actor.
The country is seeing a massive rise in cases of COVID-19 again, the biggest yet after the deadly second wave of April-May last year. As a third wave is being predicted to impact India later this month, state and central governing bodies are taking various measures to curb the spread. Delhi, for instance, issued a yellow alert, closing down theatres and restaurants.
Keeping the curbs in mind the makers of Prithviraj, have decided to stall its release. A statement released by producers Yash Raj Films, said, "YRF was waiting till the last minute to see if the situation in India and overseas improves but the pace with which coronavirus cases are accelerating, it forced their hand to hold on to the biggest title."

Other films postponed due to covid scare :
Bahubali director, SS Rajamouli's ambitious pre-independence era project RRR, starring Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt, and Ajay Devgn, was set to release on January 7, 2022. However, the producers of the film have decided to push it back. It is being reported that the makers of the film lost close to 18 to 20 crore rupees that were spent on marketing the film prior to its release.
Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur starrer Jersey was supposed to release on December 31, 2021. However, the makers later released a statement that said that the movie has been postponed in view of the health and safety of the audience. The new release date of the movie has not been revealed yet.
Going against the tide, makers of Radhe Shyam, starring Prabhas and Pooja Hegde are still sticking to the proposed schedule of releasing the film on January 14. A statement released by the team behind the project also urged people to not spread rumours. "As of now, there is no change in the release plans of #RadheShyam. The Prabhas-starrer is gearing up to hit the screens on 14 January. Please don’t believe rumours."
