Harnaaz Sandhu became the Miss Universe 2021 and brought back the crown to India after 21 years. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi also congratulated her on Monday and gave her best wishes for her future.

PM Modi tweeted, "Congratulations to Harnaaz Sandhu on being crowned Miss Universe. Best wishes to her for her future endeavours." Sandhu won by defeating contestants from 79 countries. She is the third Indian women to wear the Miss Universe crown after Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta.

The 21-year-old model from Chandigarh has also acted in a few Punjabi movies such as Bai Ji Kuttange and Yaara Diya Poo Baran. She took to her Instagram after her big win and dedicated the crown to India. She wrote, "India, this one is for you."
She was presented with the crown on stage by the former Miss Universe 2020 Andrea Meza. The first runner up in the final round was Paraguay's Nadia Ferreira and South Africa's Lalela Mswane wore the second runner up crown. Sandhu is currently doing her Masters in public administration. She enjoys a massive followership on her Instagram. As per reports, Sandhu will be moving to New York to carry out her work as a spokesperson of several causes including the Miss Universe pageant's. She will advocate for menstrual equality.

She had earlier thanked everyone for being part of her journey at the Miss Universe pageant. "It has never been my journey, it has been Our journey. I began with baby steps and as I come closer to the end, I wish to thank all my panelists for being an intergral part of my learning. I thank my designers for making me shine at the pageant. Thank you for moulding me into the girl you see on stage today," she captioned her post.
She also thanked her panlists and designers. She wore a Abhinav Mishra designer lehenga at the contest. In one of her posts on Instagram, she can be seen offering prayers at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab. In the caption she wrote that she has faith in God and wants to thank everyone who has been part of her journey.
