Diljit Dosanjh, Parineeti Chopra To Star In Film 'Chamkila'

Imtiaz Ali fans have long been waiting for a film from his end. Well, the wait is finally over and the filmmaker's new project is set to go on floors this month. The film titled Chamikla is said to be real-life inspired and will bring a fresh on-screen pair to essay the main leads.

The Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh starrer Chamkila is based on a couple who were two popular Punjabi singers, Amarjot Kaur and Amar Singh Chamkila. The film showcases their life right from their marriage, booming career in music, and their unfortunate death in their 20s.

What Is Parineeti Chopra Starrer Chamkila About?

According to reports, the Imtiaz Ali directorial Chamkila is inspired by the journey of two popular Punjabi singers, Amarjot Kaur and Amar Singh Chamkila. Parineeti Chopra will essay the role of Amarjot Kaur and Diljit Dosanjh will play Amar Singh Chamkila. In a full-fledged feature film, Chopra and Dosanjh will share the screen for the first time.

It is known that both Amarjot Kaur and Amar Singh Chamkila were the greatest singers of their time who hailed from Punjab. While the two made a great duet when it came to singing, their personal lives also intertwined as they got married soon enough and worked together until the end of their lives.

Their popularity took them to several places and, together with their band, they performed in countries including Dubai, the United States and Canada.

Film will highlight the events leading to the singer duo's assassination

On March 8, 1988, the couple arrived at Mehsampur, Punjab, to perform but were both killed in a targeted firing. Their two band members were assassinated alongside them as well. While there are several theories behind their killings, their death remains an unsolved mystery till now. Dosanjh recently confirmed his role in an interview sharing how Imtiaz Ali is making sure the film is made in a manner that justifies the late singers' life and musical journey in the best way possible.

The actors will start shooting for the film this week and will be shot in breaks spread across a few months.

Chopra recently starred in Sooraj Barjatya's Unnchai, which fared well at the box office and Dosanjh was last seen in Netflix's Jogi, in which his performance was highly appreciated.
