There are very few web series that leave viewers eagerly waiting for the next season, and Panchayat is one of them. The first season had viewers engrossed in what grassroots level politics look like and how the everyday life of the head of the panchayat, who is a woman, in this case, unfolds. It showed the reality of the seats reserved for women in administration, and how the power eventually rests with men.
Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav and Jitendra Kumar led the cast of Panchayat season 1. It was celebrated for trying to explore the political subject through a satirical and dramatic point of view. Kumar's character is a highly educated youth who lives in the city and is unable to find a suitable job there. He decides to take up a government job and shifts to a village in Uttar Pradesh.
The shift is not as smooth as expected, he still holds prejudices and feels that the job is beneath him. But as the show progresses and he delves further into the reality of the village and its people, he is finally able to understand that not all is bad. Parallelly, there runs the story of the female sarpanch Manju Devi, played by Gupta, who devouts her time to household chores, letting her husband run the show in her name.

We are introduced to Manju Devi in her house, where she is shown doing all the chores as a dutiful wife. The show evolves from the introduction of her character who is reduced to just signing on papers as and when her husband asks, to someone who begins to take her job seriously and eventually calls the shots.
The show, directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, leaves the audience with no cliffhangers. We know that Kumar's Abhishek isn't going anywhere anytime soon. And we also get a hint that he might find love in the form of Manju Devi's daughter in the upcoming season. And yet, such is the premise and execution of the show that viewers are eagerly waiting for their beloved comedy series to return soon.
To save the viewers from further torment, the show's second season was confirmed last year in October when Gupta posted a video on her Instagram feed stating, "Pranaam, Manju Devi agyi wapis apne gaon me Panchayat ka season 2 leke."
Season one first premiered on April 3, 2020. Talking about her accepting the role of a sarpanch, Gupta had told Rajeev Masand, "I didn't think anyone will watch the series. But when I read that final episode's script, I just said yes to it promptly."
Panchayat Next Season Release Date
The show will be coming back for a second season, which is confirmed, however, when will it be out is still speculation. There are reports suggesting that it might be released sometime early this year on Amazon Prime.
