A Navika Kumar and Kangana Ranaut interview is firing up trends on social media today, stirring controversy for a remark on India's independence. Sitting before an audience where she was being hosted by television anchor Kumar for her media network's summit, actor Ranaut claims the country got "real freedom" only in 2014 and freedom from colonial powers in 1947 was "bheek." 2014 was the year Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Narendra Modi came to power. In recent times, Ranaut has been noted for being politically outspoken in her support for the ruling party and its ideals.

BJP member of Parliament Varun Gandhi sharing the clip questioned the "disdain for the sacrifices of millions of freedom fighters" and asked whether this was madness or treason.

According to Bar & Bench, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s Preethi Menon has filed a complaint with the Mumbai police, seeking action against Ranaut for her "seditious remarks."

Besides Ranaut, Kumar too is facing criticism with some social media users claiming she made no attempt at engaging with the "bheek" remark they are considering offensive. This is not the first time the duo was subjected to backlash for controversial remarks.

In the recent interview with Kumar, Ranaut also made a reference to a possible partner in her life, much to the surprise of fans. On plans of marriage, the 34-year-old Queen actor says she sees herself as a wife and a mother in five years. When asked about the identity of this mystery lover, Ranaut said, "Everyone will know soon."
