Mumbai rape case: A day after being brutally raped in Saki Naka, Mumbai, the survivor passed away today while undergoing treatment at a local hospital. The woman was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood on Friday. Her private parts were reportedly violated with an iron rod, a reminder of the Nirbhaya gangrape case from 2012.

The woman was admitted to civic-run Rajawadi Hospital at Ghatkopar, while the accused is in custody at Saki Naka police station. Due to the woman;s death, the charges being levied against the accused will now be revised.
Here are 10 things to know about the Mumbai rape case:
1. Saki Naka police received a call around 3:30 A.M. on Friday, September 10 about a woman lying unconscious on Khairani Road in the area.
2. The deceased woman was allegedly raped and assaulted with an iron rod in her private parts.
3. The assault took place inside an auto-rickshaw. On investigation, the police found blood stains inside the vehicle that was parked nearby.
4. The woman was taken to a hospital in Ghatkopar, a suburb in Mumbai where the doctors noted the assault with an iron rod. She passed away on September 11.
5. The woman, in her 30s, was married and had two children.
6. Whether the act was carried out by a single person or if the woman was gangraped is still being investigated.
7. Rekha Sharma, the chairperson of National Commission for Women has taken a serious cognisance of the incident.
8. A 45-year-old man named Mohan Chouhan has been arrested in connection with the case.
9. He was charged with sections relevant to sexual assault and attempted murder. However, the charges will now be revised.
10. The police is expected to hold a press conference in connection with the case on September 11 afternoon.
