MLA Sania Ashiq of Pakistan Muslin League-Nawaz (PML-N) recently made headlines for an 'obscene' video going viral online. Many claimed that the woman featured in the video is Ashiq but the politician has denied such claims.
When she spotted the video first time in October, she reported it to the government and lodged a complaint with the police. The police arrested a man allegedly involved in the case on Wednesday but they did not reveal his identity. Sania Asiq has is close to former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam. She also has been a critic of Imran Khan-led government of Pakistan.
Apart from the rising number of crimes against the women in Pakistan, some women of the country have also made news as they got caught up in controversies.
Saba Qamar
The actor seen in Bollywood film Hindi Medium and popular name in Pakistan entertainment industry faced backlash for shooting a dance video at an historical mosque in Lahore, Pakistan. A local court had also issued orders to arrest the actor in the case. Singer Bilal Saeed was also issued a bailable warrant by the Lahore magistrate court. Qamar faced widespread criticism for the video on social media. In her defence, Qamar said that the music video in question featured a scene of Nikah (marriage). She said, "It was neither shot with any sort of playback music nor has it been edited to the music track."
Samiya Aarzoo
Wife of cricketer Hasan Ali was heavily trolled and even got life threats by toxic cricket fans on Twitter. This happened after her husband dropped a catch during a T20 match with Australia on November 11. The Pakistan team was playing semi finals match against the Australian team and many fans felt that Hasan Ali's poor fielding resulted in Pakistan's loss in the game.
Aroosa Alam
Amidst a fallout in the Indian National Congress ( INC) Punjab wing, Aroosa Alam got caught up. Her friendship with former Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amrinder Singh was the subject of the backlash. Alam who is a Pakistani journalist was accused of having links with Pakistan's intelligence agency.
Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa issued a statement directing for a probe into Alam’s alleged connection to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Captain Amrinder Singh through his media representative, said Alam had been coming to India for the past 16 years with government clearance and that no objections were previously raised.
Mehwish Hayat
The Pakistani actor earlier this year took to Instagram to wish Independence day to her fellow countrymen and shared a picture holding the national flag. The picture made her face heavy trolling from netizens who started commenting on the colour of her bra seemingly visible. Hayat retorted by calling the trolls "perverts"
She slammed the trolls in her Instagram stories, writing, “The perverts debating the colour of my bra just shows how sick and petty their minds are.” Further asking the commenters to grow up, Hayat wrote, “Black, gray or green it is none of your business.”
Ifrah Khan
An actor and influencer was taken into police custody earlier this year for allegedly blackmailing a businessman in Lahore. She was also accused of defrauding him of Rs 3,00,000 and extortion of over 10 million. Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) cybercrime wing Lahore confirmed the arrest of the actor as according to a report.
