Over the past decade, the cinema-goers' habits have diversified which has led to the flourishing of regional films. With the advent of OTT platforms and streaming services, the language barriers are slowly diminishing. Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam cinema were always prominent cinema industries apart from the Hindi cinema industry. Off lately, the Marathi cinema industry is also gaining prominence. The popularity of Marathi cinema grew after Nagraj Manjule's drama Sairat which explored caste dynamics in rural Maharashtra through the love story of Archana (Rinku Rajguru) and Prashant (Akash Thosar).
Marathi cinema has always produced films that capture the complexities of life. Be it a film like Nude which explores the life of a nude painting model, Balak Palak which speaks about sex education or a drama like Court which highlights the bigotry that underscores the judicial system. These films are a testament to the potential of the industry to create movies that get resounding success commercially as well as critically. Me Vasantrao
Starring talented artists like Amey Wagh, Rahul Deshpande, Anita Date and others, Me Vasantrao is a biopic helmed by Nipun Dharmadhikari. The film is based on the life of musician extraordinaire Vasantrao Deshpande. The film will explore Deshpande’s, a Hindu classical vocalist, life, his musical journey and the eventual achievement of being called a legendary musician. Actor Rahul Deshpande, who will essay his character in the film, is his grandson. The ">film will hit the theatres on April 1.
Dil Dimag Aur Batti
The Hrishikesh Gupte directorial is a Marathi film with an ensemble cast. The film features actors like Sonali Kulkarni, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Vandana Gupte in pivotal roles. The film revolves around two filmmakers who are looking to make a film on a low budget of Rs 5 lacs. Kulkarni, Prabhavalkar and others are common people who aspire to be actors and audition for the film. The entire process is chaotic which incites laughter from the viewers. The film will release on April 22, 2022.

Chandramukhi
Actor-director Prasad Oak who delivered popular films like Kachcha Limbu and Hirkani is back with another most-anticipated film Chandramukhi. Starring Amruta Khanvilkar, Addinath Kothare and others, the film is based on Vishwas Patil’s book by the same name. The story is a tale of romance between a girl from Tamasha and a shrewd, ambitious politician. The film is all set to release on April 29, 2022.
HawaHawai
The Marathi film is helmed by Mahesh Tilekar who is known for films like One Room Kitchen and Ghar Grihasti. The film marks the debut of actor Nimisha Sajayan who is known for her performance in the Malayalam flick The Great Indian Kitchen and Ankit Mohan. The film which is scheduled to release on April 1 is centred around a middle-class woman essayed by Sajayan. This film also marks Tilekar’s comeback after a decade-long hiatus.
Raudra
Written and directed by Ravindra Shivaji, Raudra is a Marathi period mystery-thriller. Set in the ‘50s, the film follows the journey of an official Tryambak (Rahul Patil) who arrives at a village for census duty. He is lodged in a mansion and encounters strange happenings around him. Meanwhile, he starts courting Mrunmayee (Urmila Jagtap), the daughter of the mansion’s owner. Gupte has very beautifully shot the film and the &t=1s">trailer is goosebump-inducing. The film will release in theatres on April 1.
