Iranian actor and model Mandana Karimi was bashed on social media after she posted a controversial video of herself twerking in a burqa. The video Karimi shared was a behind-the-scenes clip from her shoot in Istanbul.
Mandana Karimi’s Instagram video was captioned “I wish shooting with Hijab was as easy as this”. She also said, “No hate, just bunch of people making a film ”.
The post went viral and netizens slammed her. One user said, “Shame! Do not disrespect hijab like this. At least think once before doing such actions! ”. Another added “What the hell is wrong with you stop making fun of one’s religion if you are not a believer then should restrain from abusing what others find holy. ”
Most users were not criticising Karimi for dancing, they were criticising Karimi for twerking while wearing the burqa. Some users said that dancing in a hijab was fine “but twerking in hijab is extreme”. Another user said she could do whatever she wanted if she hadn’t been wearing a burqa, but since she was wearing one she should not have been twerking.
Some showed their support for Karimi and said that she should ignore the comments and that “There is nothing wrong in what you are doing”. One user said that “There’s absolutely no problem in dancing while wearing hijab” and another added, “Don’t spread hate in the name of religion”.
When Karimi was trolled for wearing a bikini, she replied “No one can dictate the other person to dress up in a certain way.” Similarly, people can make judgements regarding her actions while wearing a burqa, but nobody can dictate the decisions she makes.
Mandana Karimi Twerks While Wearing Burqa
The crux of the issue comes down once again to personal choices and opinions. People disapproved of Mandana Karimi’s actions as they believed it made fun of religious and traditional attire. Those people had the right to disapprove as they believed their religious attire was being disrespected and mocked. Meanwhile, other people did not see any issue with the video and gave their support to the actor.
No two people have the same exact philosophy, even when it comes to religion. While some thought the dance was “harmless” others found it to be offensive.
The internet was divided on whether they believed or not Karimi’s actions were offensive or not. While Karimi has the right to make her own decisions and dance while wearing a burqa, people are allowed to find her twerking offensive and against their religion.
