Lucknow constable assault case: A young man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly hitting an on-duty woman constable with a rod after she confronted him for passing lewd remarks at her in the Aliganj area. The man was chased by locals who nabbed him when he tried to escape. The female officer got a serious head injury due to this assault. The miscreant was identified as a local resident named Prabhat Kumar.
The accused has been booked for attempted murder, eve-teasing and voluntarily causing grievous hurt to a public servant to deter them from doing their duty.

- On Sunday, August 29, a video of the injured constable being helped by bystanders after the attack went viral on social media. Police said the woman constable was on duty in the area when the young man, reportedly the son of an advocate, passed lewd remarks at her.
- The woman constable, according to Assistant Commissioner of police Akhilesh Kumar Singh, was on duty in pink patrolling, a wing formed to prevent incidents of crime against girls and women, TOI reported. More here.
- When she confronted the accused for passing lewd remarks at her while patrolling, the man allegedly hit her with an iron rod. The constable had to be admitted to a hospital after she fell on the road with a severe head injury.
- The accused was nabbed by the people present at the site of the attack. It was also reported that attempts were made to protect him from any legal consequences for the alleged assault. Police said the accused was the son of a well-known local advocate.
- It is also being said that mental health issues were being used to curb the investigation against the young man.
- The woman constable lives in a rented house in the same locality near the Aliganj area.
- The police department has decided to bring serious charges against Kumar and ensure strict punishment. The police commissioner has also ordered stringent action against the accused.
