Besides earning accolades for the performance, the two actors also managed to leave an everlasting impression on the audience as Rani and Vijyalakshmi. Among the very few female-friendships that we get to see on the screen in Hindi films, theirs was the most unexpected yet wonderful. Undeniably, the birthday girl made her character of a liberated and unapologetic woman, captivating and left us envying their bond more than any other.

Imagine being Rani, a girl who has stepped out of her home alone for the first time, that too, for her honeymoon in Paris, and to bump into a stranger who turns out to be like Vijayalakshmi, that's no less than a blessing. As heartbroken Rani wanders around the city reflecting on what went wrong in her relationship with her fiancée Vijay, she finds comfort and acceptance in her new friend.

Surpassing the language barrier, Rani discovers the taste of freedom through "Vijay", who lives life to the fullest each day. The different cultural and social background these two women come from doesn't kindle any judgement towards each other's life choices. What else do we want in a friend?

For that little push you need to get out of your comfort zone

Vijaylakshmi, who is a working woman and raising her son single-handedly, although unknowingly, shows Rani new possibilities in life. Despite the fact that Rani came on her honeymoon alone to a foreign land, she still finds herself caged in the limitations put on her in the name of "ladkiyon ko allowed nahi hai". Vijaylakshmi makes sure that her new found friend gets to experience every bit of her 'liberating' trip and creates memories around the city.

Sometimes, all you need is someone who would listen to the rant and rave over how awful your life is right now. While Rani goes on and on about how obedient she has been all the life and didn't get her due for it, she just sits there listening. Although, we are assuming she understood maybe very little of Rani's stories from back home. But does that even matter? She gives Rani a shoulder to cry on, without giving any unsolicited advice or passing a judgement on her.

As we need someone who stays herself and encourages you to do the same

Although, Vijayalakshmi is the one who persuades Rani to try her hands on things she never dared to do, she doesn't try to change her. The beauty of their friendship lies in the very element that they stay truly themselves even in each other's company. As Vijalakshmi bids farewell to her friend at Paris train station she tells her "don't change", that's something we would love to hear from our own friends any day.

And lastly, as Rani walks away she assures her that "Vijay nahi toh kya hua? Vijaylakshmi toh hai!", a subtle hint on the fact that we can possibly surpass all hardships as long as we have our gal pals beside us.
