While a lot of us are eager to spend our weekends out in the post-pandemic months, the monsoon season means lazy days spent curled up in bed with hot chai and snacks. Who wants to bother with travelling on a rainy weekend?
The first weekend of August is upon us and with rain predictions all over, a lot of us will choose to unwind at home rather than step out. Of course, our wish is OTT's command, as always. With four news films and shows freshly released, let the binge fest begin.
August OTT Releases to check out this week
Many noteworthy movies are available for audiences to binge-watch this weekend. Alia Bhatt is bringing to us her first film as producer Darlings, while Prithviraj Sukumaran's latest theatrical release is also having its digital release this weekend. So here are all the latest releases on OTT that'll help light up your weekend.
Darlings
Darlings, Alia Bhatt's debut film as a producer features her in the lead along with Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, Roshan Mathew, and Vijay Maurya. The film has been helmed by Jasmeet K Reen and looks at the lives of a mother-daughter pair trying to make their way through Mumbai, finding love and courage in surprising places while defying all difficulties. Bhatt here plays the role of Badru, a young woman married to a ticket collector named Hamza who is both an alcoholic and a wife-beater.
The film sees Badru extract revenge from her abusive husband but in her own sweet way, that too with the help of her financially independent mother, who has a dark past of her own. Will she succeed or will Hamza manage to outsmart her?

The Sandman
The Sandman is a 1989–1996 DC Comics comic book that served as the inspiration for a fantasy drama television series of the same name. The creator of the comic book series, Neil Gaiman, has also helped co-create this ambitious series. The Sandman chronicles the tale of Dream, the titular Sandman, just like the comic. The series is led by Tom Sturridge, alongside Gwendoline Christie, Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry and Sanjeev Bhaskar in supporting parts.
The cosmic being known as the Sandman, or Dream, who controls all dreams, is kidnapped and held captive for more than a century. He now needs to go through various planets and time periods in order to erase the damage his absence has caused.

Kaduva
Shaji Kailas and Jinu V Abraham are the writers and directors of this Malayalam masala flick. Featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead, the film also features Vivek Oberoi and Samyuktha Menon. Kaudva was released in theatres on July 7 to generally negative reviews from the general public, however, the film did receive love from Prithiviraj fans.
The film revolves around a corrupt rich man Kuriyachan, played by Sukumaran who is known for his sense of justice and an egoistic attitude.

Crash Course
The news Hindi OTT series Crash Course revolves around student life and all the nostalgia associated with it. Led by eight fresh faces, the series is touted to be an engaging, interesting, and thought-provoking tale. It offers a thorough look at students' lives, including the triumphs and failures they experience as they navigate adulthood while fending off peer and family pressure in a competitive environment.
Set in Kota, the series also explores commercialisation of education system in India and how exams are all about just cracking the code. Despite being led by a young cast, the series also features veterans like Annu Kapoor in an important role and has been directed by actor Vijay Maurya, who coincidentally, features in Darlings, which also released this week.
