Lakshika, who is just 21-year-old, has earned herself the title of being the youngest Sarpanch of Chintaman Jawasia Gram Panchayat, Ujjain just a day before her birthday. She was contesting along with eight other women but she won by a margin of nearly 487 votes.

The 21-year-old Lakshika previously worked as a Radio Jockey and Journalist and holds a Post-graduate diploma in Mass Communication. She, reportedly, received good wishes from everyone in her village after the panchayat poll results were announced.

While speaking to the media, Lakshika said, "After filing the nomination papers, my aim was to work for the development of the village. It has been promised in the manifesto that the problem of drinking water, drain, and street light has to be solved in the village. Along with this, the promise of getting the benefit of a housing scheme for the homeless families of the village will be fulfilled."

The young woman was lauded for her win. Speaking about her win, she further said, "This is a happy moment for me, I'm fortunate enough to become the youngest sarpanch of MP. I hope I can solve everyone's problems as promised."

Her win sets a great precedent for young girls across India and paved the way for other young girls who aspire to join the administration and governance like Dagar.

Women's representation in politics and other male-dominated fields is very important for millions of young girls to look up to. Women have always come after men or are sidelined in the field of politics like many others. Despite women having a seat at the table, women are more often hesitant to voice their opinions due to a lack of confidence.

This has been yet another consequence of internalized misogyny. Lakshika's win, along with being a moment of pride for the young girl is also a step in the right direction when it comes to women in politics.
