Karan Mehra Nisha Rawal Spat: On May 31, actor Karan Mehra was arrested by the Mumbai police after his wife, actor Nisha Rawal, filed a complaint against him. The complaint reportedly followed a spat between the couple.
The Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai actor and his wife have been in news for their marital problems in recent years. However, before June 1, neither of the parties had openly addressed the issue. In an interview from May in fact, actor Karan Mehra had claimed that his wife took great care of him through his COVID infection.
Previous reports have also stated that the couple was unable to spend quality time together as Rawal had to stay in Mumbai to take care of their son while Mehra stayed in Punjab for his upcoming projects.
However, following Karan Mehra's arrest and subsequent release on June 1, the actor and his wife have both given individual statements to the press, presenting their side of the story, while denying the allegations made by the other party.

Here's how the events have unfolded for the couple, leading to their bitter spat in full media view:
- Karan Mehra and Nisha Rawal got married in 2012. The couple has a four-year-old son, Kavish Mehra, who was born in 2017.
- Mehra and Rawal’s marriage has been said to be under pressure in recent years. But the couple has always dismissed any allegations or rumours and claimed that they have a great relationship.
- As per ANI, actor Nisha Rawal filed a complaint against her husband with the Goregaon police on May 31. Rawal filed this complaint with the police after an alleged brawl between them.
- Following Rawal’s complaint, Mehra was arrested on the night of May 31. A case of domestic violence was also reportedly registered against him.
- Mehra was reportedly arrested under Section 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others), Section 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), Section 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), Section 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the place) and Section 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
- On the morning of June 1, the 38-year-old actor was granted bail.
- After his release in bail, Mehra said in a statement that his wife suffered from bipolar disorder with severe “mood swings and anger streaks”. Mehra also alleged that Rawal would hit herself on objects and would stage injuries. Read more on Karan Mehra's statement here.
- He went on to accuse Rawal of banging herself against a wall during their altercation, and said, "Ab dekho kya hota hai."
- In retaliation Nisha Rawal too held a press meet on the evening of June 1, during which she accused her husband of having an affair. She said she had confronted her husband after seeing text messages on his phone.
- Rawal alleged that she had suffered domestic abuse at hands of Mehra and has evidence to support her claim. The actor added that her husband has not been ”taking responsibility of the child”.
- On June 2, Karan Mehra refuted the allegations of having an extramarital affair levied against him by Rawal, calling them "baseless".
