Kangana Ranaut transformation for Thalaivi: Just ahead of the trailer launch tomorrow, Kangana Ranaut has shared her physical transformation pictures from Thalaivi biopic, which is based on the life of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor J Jayalalithaa. Ranaut tweeted some stills and recounted how she underwent massive physical transformation to trace the life of the late politician's journey from being an actor to becoming the CM.

Kangana Ranaut Transformation For Thalaivi Stuns Fans
In the first photo, the actor is seen in a retro look as Jayalalithaa in a white floral shirt and yellow shorts. In the second one, Ranaut chose to wear a golden ensemble for a song sequence. This particular one shows how she had gained slight weight for the next stage to be Jayalalithaa, the film star. Ranaut then poses as a powerful female politician in the third and final picture, giving a glimpse of what her fans can expect from the trailer and the biopic.
Complimenting Ranaut for the transformation, a user wrote, "Wonder challenging putting on so much weight & shedding so quickly. Here could not reduce extra 5 kgs in middle despite leaving sugar,fried,reducing wheat intakes,milk,6 kilometers walk,exercises because moment stop,body dilutes in no time including all muscles built etc."

Ranaut On The Highs And Lows Of Transforming Body Weight
In February, Ranaut took a walk down memory lane and shared a “massive transformation alert” and the various stages of the veteran's life. Ranaut had to follow a tight schedule keeping up with the looks of Jayalalithaa through varied phases.
The Queen actor wrote in a couple of tweets, “I have raw talent like Meryl Streep for layered character depictions but I can also do skilled action and glamour like Gal Gadot #Thalaivi #Dhaakad. Sharing the pictures of her dramatic weight gain and loss, Ranaut revealed how her weight gain for the project and how learning Bharatnatyam for her role left her back severely damaged. She had also revealed that she was struggling to lose the extra kilos.
“I played the first super humangirl on Indian screen, thanks to my body a rare combination of dainty yet strong-looking, in my 30’s I had to gain 20 kgs for ‘Thalaivi’ and do Bharatnatyam, it left my back severely damaged but no bigger gratification than to play a role to perfection,” Ranaut had tweeted.

She added that the "moment of despair" was worth it because of how the movie finally shaped up.

“Journey back to my fit body wasn’t easy, I feel good but even in seven months not able to achieve my earlier stamina and agility back and those last 5 kgs aren’t budging, there are moments of despair and then my director Vijay sir shows me ‘Thalaivi’ footage and all seems fine,” she had mentioned in another tweet.

Ranaut's drastic body transformation was also visible in shots she shared from the two other action films she was shooting, Dhaakad and Tejas.

The makers of the film also released a still featuring Arvind Swamy in the role of former chief minister of Tamil Nadu, MGR. Kangana took to her Instagram handle and wrote, "Jayalalithaa and MGR were the magical duo on screen, a couple who people could not get enough for years to come. Know their story in Thalaivi. Trailer out in 2 days."
