She is a 25-year-old Indian discus thrower from a little village called Badal in Punjab. Her village is situated in Sri Muktsar Sahib District’s Lambi Sub-Division (Tehsil).
She wasn't inclined towards academics at all. However, she had been fascinated by the world of sports since childhood. It was her coach encouraged her to pick discus. “I was really bad at studies. There was a state meet and my coach took me there,” Kaur reportedly said in an interview.
She is renowned as she set a national record in discus throw with an attempt of 65.06 m. In fact, she broke her own record to 66.59 at the Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships held in Patiala in Punjab on 21 June 2021.
She will compete with Valleria Allman from United States.
She trained very hard and gradually it started paying off as she got listed with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for training full time. In no time, she picked titles of the U-18 and U-20 national championships in 2016. At the World University Games, she finished sixth in 2017.
At Asian Athletics Championships in Doha in 2019, she finished fifth.
Discus thrower Seema Punia is her role-model. She too qualified for the Tokyo Olympics but finished 16 in the qualifiers and couldn't make it to the finals.
In an interview with Scroll, she mentioned that she was under a lot of pressure to get married at an early age but she worked hard to prove her mettle in her field of interest.
She also mentioned that she loves cricket and wants to be a professional cricketer one day.
