Jharkhand Teen Gangraped: A 16-year-old girl from the Dalit community was allegedly gangraped on September 18 morning by a gang of five men. The girl had gone out early morning to relieve herself with her two friends. Five men allegedly forcefully took her and sexually assaulted the teen while her two friends managed to flee.
The girl is now being treated at a hospital in Hazaribagh, while police are still on the lookout for two suspects who are absconding. Three arrests have been made so far in the case.
Here are ten things we know so far about the Jharkhand gangrape of a Dalit teen:
1. The 16-year-old girl hails from the Dalit community living in Hazaribag district. Her parents work as daily wage labourers, reports The Indian Express.
2. She was celebrating Karna puja with her friends till the early hours of Saturday morning. Following which the girl and her friends went out to relieve themselves.
3. On her way, the girl and her friends were attacked by five men. While the survivor's friends managed to flee, the girl was taken away by the assailants who then allegedly gangraped her.
4. The survivor reportedly didn't speak to anyone about the incident.
5. The incident came to light when the girl visited a hospital with her mother.
6. She was admitted to the hospital for treatment two days after the incident.
7. An FIR was then registered on September 20 based on the survivor's statement.
8. According to Manoj Ratan Chothe, Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police, three named accused in the case have been arrest so far.
9. The incident has sparked concerns over compromise in the safety of women and girls in villages due to the lack of sanitation facilities.
10. However, Chothe has called this a "one-off" incident adding that toilets are available in the village.
