Asha Parekh
Famous Bollywood actor Asha Parekh is one of the most influential and famous female actors of her time. She was known as the 'hit girl' of Indian cinema and one of the highest paid female actors during the 60s and 70s. Parekh recently was honoured at Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2022 for her contributions to the Indian cinema. Asha Parekh was the first female chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification of India.
Sudha Murty
Indian author, engineering teacher and chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, Sudha Murty is well-known for her short stories including How I taught My Grandmother To Read among the most famous. Her other notable works include Dollar Bahu, Three Thousand Stitches, Wise and Otherwise among many others. Murty has also performed in Marathi film Pitruroon and the Kannada film Prarthana. She was also recognised for her social work with fourth highest civilian award Padma Shri in 2006.
Ritu Kumar
Well-known Indian fashion designer Ritu Kumar began her career in 1960s when she started a small enterprise for hand block printers in a small village of West Bengal providing them employment. After her successful exhibitions in Kolkata, she became highly acclaimed for her hand-block printed sarees which gained popularity not only in India but internationally as well. Today, many celebrities are spotted in Ritu Kumar label as they walk ramps, fashion shows and even when they pose for their airport OOTD.
Shahnaz Husain
The 77-year-old woman entrepreneur, Husain is the founder, chairperson and MD of the Shahnaz Husain Group and is responsible for taking the Indian herbal beauty heritage in the international arena. She became a mother at the tender age of 16 and started a small herbal beauty clinic in 1971 at her home while she formulated skin, hair and body care products according to the Indian Ayurvedic system. The Shahnaz Husain Group has spread across 138 countries in the world owing to her innovative formulations of general herbal beauty care.
Usha Uthup
Indian playback singer Usha Uthup generally sings Indian pop, jazz and filmi music genres. She is popularly known for her songs Darling (7 Khoon Maaf), Hari Om Hari (Pyaara Dushman), Vande Mataram (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham) along with a number of albums as well. In 2012, Uthup won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her song Darling. The 74-year-old singer recently made news as she dazzled audience with her Bengali version of song Srivalli from the film Pushpa.
Meira Kumar
Indian politician and former diplomat Meira Kumar represented the Indian National Congress as the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment (2004-2009) and the Minister of Water Resources (2009). Meira Kumar held the Lok Sabha as the first woman speaker from 2009-2014. Kumar joined the Indian Foreign Services in 1973 and worked there for nearly a decade after which she joined politics following her parents who were also active politicians and diplomats.
