IAS Officer Renu Raj and Dr Sriram Venkitaraman, the joint secretary of the health department and managing director of Kerala Medical Services Corporation are all set to tie the knot on April 28, 2022.

IAS Officer Renu Raj is well known. She is highly regarded for taking strict actions against illegal constructions and land encroachments in the hill station of Munnar, during her tenure as Devikulam sub-collector. Being the District collector of the Alappuzha District of Kerala, Dr Renu Raj first made headlines in 2014 when she topped the Union Public Service Commission exam in her first attempt, securing the second rank. She is now all set to marry a fellow second rand holder in the civil services exam 2012 batch Dr Sriram Venkitaraman.

- Renu Raj hails from the district of Kottayam, Kerala. Her mother V.N. Latha is a housewife and her father Rajakumaran Nair is a retired DTO in the KSRTC.
- Completing her High School education at St. Teresa’s Higher Secondary School, She studied medicine at the Government Medical College, Kottayam, Kerala.
- Before appearing in the civil services exam, she practised medicine and worked as a surgeon.
- Renu Raj was previously married to a colleague, also a doctor. The marriage ended in divorce.
- Fulfilling her childhood dream to be an IAS Officer, she appeared for the UPSC exam in the year 2014, and cleared it in the first attempt, making headlines for securing the second rank.
- Renu Raj in an interview stated, "I thought that being a doctor, she could have helped 50 or 100 patients, but as a civil service officer, her one decision would benefit thousands of people will get. After that, I decided to give the UPSC exam."
- Along with preparations for the UPSC exams in 2013, Renu Raj reportedly practised medicine until she cleared her UPSC Mains.
- Currently posted as the DC of the Alappuzha district, she has also served as a sub-collector in the Devikulam and Thrissur districts of Kerala.
- O.V. Vijayan, Sugathakumari, and O.N.V. Kurup are her favourite authors. Additionally, she is also a fan of Padma Subramaniam and has trained in classical dance.
- Refusing to be held down by political pressure, she took a stand against legislator, S. Rajendran and held her own against encroachments and illegal construction in Munnar, in 2019 while serving as a sub-collector in Devikulum, submitted a report before the Kerala High Court. Several officials including Revenue minister E. Chandrasekharan stood in her defence.
- Talking more about what she has set out to achieve she stated, “I have no notion of changing the society overnight, I can guarantee you one thing. Nobody will have to approach me for a second time if they have a genuine demand."
- Dr Renu Raj is now all set to marry fellow IAS Officer Dr Sriram Venkitaraman, reportedly on April 28, 2022, in the Chottanikara Bhagavathy Temple.
