How to watch Toofaan online: Actor and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Toofaan this Friday (July 16). The actor is playing the role of a national-level boxer in the film. Toofaan also features Mrunal Thakur who is playing the role of his supportive partner Dr Ananya. Ahead of its release, as part of promotions, the film's promotional video was shown on a billboard at the Times Square in New York on Wednesday.
Calling it a dream come true to be featured at Times Square, Akhtar reminisced about the first time he went to the iconic tourist destination, looking up at billboards and thinking "wouldn’t it be cool to have a film represented here..!" Undoubtedly, this is one of the most exciting news for the entire Toofaan team and the digital steaming platform which is taking the film "across the Atlantic in all its powerful glory," Akhtar noted. More here.
Thakur, who plays the female lead in the film, commented on Akhtar's post writing, "More power to you Farhan, for all that you’ve done and how hard you’ve worked!" She added that his dedication and perseverance are commendable. The television actor, who made her debut in films with Love Sonia, a drama that revolves around two sisters trapped in a human trafficking ring, also said that she can’t wait for the world to watch Toofaan because of its unique storytelling.
Earlier talking about her character and in what ways Ananya is similar to her, the actor told the Telegraph India, "She’s confident, she’s independent... There is a lot of pain in her life, and I thought up a backstory for Ananya, which wasn’t written anywhere." Before she started playing her, according to Thakur, she asked herself, "Ananya ka childhood kaisa hoga?"
Thakur further noted that her character, Ananya, decided to channelise the pain positively and that’s possibly why she chose to become a doctor. She may have the opportunities to travel the globe and work in better hospitals, but she chooses to work in Dongri in Mumbai where she tries to rehabilitate people like Ajju (aka Aziz, played by Farhan Akhtar). For the uninitiated, Akhtar's character Ajju is a small-time gangster who beats up people, who extorts money but goes on to become a national-level boxer.
Earlier, Akhtar had talked about going through some strenuous training to transform into the role of a boxer. The 47-year-old actor shared a video on his social media handle and revealed how challenging it was to transform into Aziz Ali.
It took about two years to bring the boxer persona to life. This wouldn't have been possible without the belief & support of this amazing team. Watch my boxing journey here.https://t.co/T5ccRHIlYu@excelmovies @PrimeVideoIN

The film also features Paresh Rawal, Supriya Pathak Kapur and Hussain Dalal in pivotal roles. It marks the second collaboration of Akhtar with Rakesh Omprakash Mehra after the massive success of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, the biopic based on the late Indian athlete Milkha Singh.
