Arooj Aftab And Anoushka Shankar's 'Udhero Na' Nominated For Grammy Awards

The list of 2023 Grammy nominations is out and artists Arooj Aftab and Anoushka Shankar’s Udhero Na have been nominated for Best Global Music Performance.

The Pakistani artist Arooj Aftab’s song Udhero Na is a track in the deluxe version of her album Vulture Prince. The song also features Anoushka Shankar, the daughter of Ravi Shankar and Norah Jones’ half-sister on the sitar.

In 2022, Aftab became the first Pakistani woman to be nominated for a Grammy Award. She was nominated for Best New Artist and for Best Global Music Performance for her song Mohabbat. Aftab won the award for Best Global Music Performance for the song, making her the first Pakistani artist to win a Grammy Award.

Both Udhero Na and Mohabbat are from the same album, Vulture Prince.

Arooj Aftab

The Pakistani singer, composer, and producer Arooj Aftab is based in the United States. The artist has worked in a variety of musical styles including jazz and neo-Sufi.

Aftab became the first Pakistani to be nominated for a Grammy Award and the first Pakistani to win a Grammy award in 2022.

Earlier this year, the artist was awarded the Pride of Performance Award, Pakistan’s highest literary award for showing excellence in the field of art and music. Aftab received the award on the 75th diamond jubilee anniversary of Pakistan. President Arif Alvi awarded the Pride of Performance Award to Aftab.

She has a degree in music production and engineering from Boston’s Berklee College of Music. She worked as an editor and scored films.

In an interview, Aftab mentioned that Anoushka Shankar was one of her influences.

Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a British-American sitar player, film composer, and producer. She is the first musician of Indian origin to perform at the Grammy Awards ceremony.

The artist is the daughter of the Indian sitar maestro Ravi Shankar and Sukanya Shankar. She is also the half-sister of Norah Jones and Shubhendra Shankar.

Shankar was nominated for an Ivor Novello Award for the score for the television series A Suitable Boy.
