Who Is Ghazal Alagh?
- Ghazal Alagh, a former corporate trainer and now an artist and entrepreneur, co-founded Mamaearth out of a passion for making the early years of parenting stress-free. In 2016, she and her spouse, Varun Alagh, co-founded the business.
- Ghazal is in charge of product development and community management at Mamaearth, India's first toxin-free baby care company, where she also serves as Chief Mama.
- When Ghazal became a mother, she found it challenging to find chemical-free products for her son Agastya, which inspired her to create a brand of baby products that are 100% free of toxins.
- In addition to being a successful businesswoman and a loving mother, Ghazal has received recognition as one of the top 10 female performers in India on a national and international level.
- She was appointed as one of the seven judges for the reality show "Shark Tank India" in 2021. On the programme, aspiring business owners convince investors to fund their ventures by pitching their concepts and business strategies.
- In January, Ghazal Alagh's company closed a $52 million funding round sponsored by Sequoia Capital India, valuing it at $1.2 billion, making it a unicorn.
- Her business, which began as a search for chemical-free substitutes for the couple's infant son who had a skin issue, recently increased its revenue through online and in-store sales by more than doubling it to $121 million in the most recent fiscal year.
- In a recent chit-chat session with prominent writer Chetan Bhagat, she recalled her struggling days. She revealed how she was mocked during her business' initial stages. She told about an incident where she wanted her blog to be featured on a celebrity's blog, to which she received this reply, "Aapse bachcha sambhal nahi raha, aap business kaise banayengi (You can’t handle your child, how will you handle a business)? And she hung up."
