FIR Lodged Against Payal Rohatgi: The Shivaji Nagar police station in Pune registered a case against actor Payal Rohatgi for allegedly she using objectionable words against Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. This is, however, not the first time Rohatgi is facing this situation. She has previously been arrested twice for similar offences.

FIR Lodged Against Payal Rohatgi for 'defamatory' video: Five things to know
In a video, Rohatgi shared on social media, she was heard making derogatory comments against Mahatma Gandhi and the former politicians Indira Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi. This was cited as a criminal offence of promoting communal disharmony. An FIR was lodged against the actor under sections 153 (a), 500, 505 (2) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
Ramesh Iyer, the Congress Spokesman of Pune accused Rohatgi of repeatedly making derogatory comments about the Nehru-Gandhi family. He said that they came across one such post, which they believe has been made recently. He further added that he along with the office-bearers of the Pune City Congress committee, Ramesh Bagwe, Mohan Joshi, Datta Bahirat and Sangeeta Tiwari met senior police officials from the cybercrime cell. "A formal complaint in the case was given by Sangeet Tiwari. The police have acted on it and a case has been registered at Shivaji Nagar police station," he added.
In 2019, Rohatgi was arrested for allegedly posting an "objectionable" content against the Nehru-Gandhi family on social media. The Rajasthan Police had detained her from her Ahmedabad residence for interrogation and the ACJM (Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate) court sent her to judicial custody.
On being released, she complained of being put in a filthy cell in the police station. Then she was taken to jail and was locked up with five hardcore criminals. It was a nightmare for her, she said. "I wouldn’t have been able to survive one more night in that jail," she had added.
In June, the Ahmedabad police arrested her for using abusive slurs and derogatory statements on social media and a WhatsApp group. A doctor named Parag Shah filed the complaint. He stated that the actor hurled abuses at the society's chairperson and sent derogatory messages on the WhatsApp group. The actor even threatened to physically harm anyone who argues with her over a common play area. Read more here.
