Emily Cooper's desire to not hurt anyone often drives her decision-making skills and she tends to suppress her own desires for that. However, to realise her own good, she has a really good friend in Mindy Chen who previously lived in Shanghai and then moved to work in Paris. An aspiring singer, Chen provides an unbiased perspective of American and French cultures as she has seen both worlds that draw Emily to her in the new city. Chen had a difficult past and she made it in Paris almost on her own. The series explores how she bravely faces the various challenges life throws at her while keeping her dream to be a singer alive in the form of her band.

Another friend that Cooper made in Paris was Camille. The rich, fashionable and successful heir, who is kind but is also manipulated heavily by her mother. Her friendship, which started on a good note, with Emily Cooper gets complicated when Cooper kisses Gabriel, the hot chef downstairs who turns out to be Camille's boyfriend. She keeps their relationship a secret from her but when the truth is revealed, the jealous and manipulative side of Camille comes out. Camille is kind but her distrust in her friend and boyfriend affects her decisions, making her seem like the villain of the story. Her point of view gives the vibes of a villain with a troubled past who you cannot blame for her wrongs because she did not choose to be the villain, situations made her.

Cooper's bosses Madeline Wheeler and Sylvie Grateau are quite opposite from each other. Both the boss ladies have full control of their life but their work tactics are different. While Sylvie is reserved and harsh, Madeline is easy-going and jolly. However, when it comes to working, none of them is ready to compromise.

Grateau is sophisticated and lavish and exudes the essence of a true French. Savoir owes much of its success to her efforts and skills. She is independent, practical and bold in her personal as well as professional life and does not owe an explanation to anyone. She has confidence in her skills and talent and that's what makes Agence Grateau a tough rival for Savoir. In short, she is the boss woman that every woman is somewhere in their heart but not everyone can pull it off unapologetically.

Madeline Wheeler is another successful and independent lady who represents the American perspective in the series. She is cheerful and cares for her employees but knows how to have her way with them as well. Her authority and confidence lie in her connection and communication skills. Unlike Grateau, she is not single, she has a family she cares about and that's where her strength comes from. While Grateau is the coconut in the series, Madeline is the cinnamon roll that could kill you.
