Actor Dia Mirza never backs off from speaking what's on her mind confidently and fearlessly. She has once again weighed her opinion on the recent debate on premarital pregnancy and child out of wedlock.
Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor's pregnancy has resurfaced the debate of premarital sex and pregnancy. While there have been many celebrity couples who have had a child out of wedlock like Sarika and Kamal Haasan and Natasa Stankovic and Hardik Pandya, the non-celebrity couples are still afraid of the idea because of society's judgement. Actor Dia Mirza, who is often seen talking about such social issues, emphasised the need not to make premarital sex and pregnancy a societal pressure and let it remain a personal choice in a recent interview.
Dia Mirza On Premarital Pregnancy
Dia too was pregnant with her son Avyaan with businessman Abhinav Rekhi. She had earlier clarified that the couple got to know about the pregnancy while they were planning the wedding and it did not influence their decision to marry in any way. However, she feels that the unnecessary pressure of getting pregnant after marriage should be eliminated and let this personal decision remain a personal choice for the couple.
In a recent interview, Mirza reportedly said, “I feel when it comes to personal choice and the power of personal choice, it can only be celebrated by those who ensure they make personal choices, not threatened, not afraid of making the choice that you need to as an individual.”
“And while there may be many people with regressive thoughts on things like premarital sex or premarital pregnancy or any other things for that matter, there are enough people who recognise the fact that it is a personal choice, that people have the right to do if they choose to. I don’t think we are as progressive as we imagine or as we consider ourselves to be,” she adds further.
For a long time, the world has weighed their opinion on whether pregnancy before marriage is right or not. While some people support such decisions, others tend to disregard them as not legit. However, sex and pregnancy before marriage is actually a personal choice of a couple and nobody's support or disapproval should bother them in any way.
