Youngsters prefer to work in big offices, with all the amenities, having a glamour factor to them. However, a young woman Tan, 22 quit her cushy job to work at a cemetery.
Tan started working at the cemetery in order to achieve a better work-life balance and avoid office politics, as per a South China Morning Post report.
Chinese Women Takes Job At Cemetery
The Chinese university graduate has left the internet in disbelief. She shared videos and images of her workplace, which she founds peaceful. The videos were shared on Douyin- a Chinese version of TikTok. The video was shared last week and depicts a mountainside cemetery in western China's Chongqing municipality.
In the clip, Tan said, "Let me show you the working environment of a Gen Z grave keeper. It's a simple and cushy job. There are cats and dogs and the internet."
Tan further described her job as "a life of early retirement". She pointed out that her job offers leisure time, a scenic view, an environment free from office politics, and a long commute. Tan contended that she calls herself a grave keeper as she lives there.
Tan's job role includes receiving guests, selling tombs, and sweeping graves on behalf of relatives of the dead, as per a report. Tan's working shift is from 8.30 am to 5 pm along with a two-hour lunch break. She has to work six days a week. Her monthly salary is about 4,000 yuan (Rs 45,766).
Many have reacted to Tan's decision to choose a cemetery job.
A user wrote, "Such a job was regarded as unlucky in the old days but is a peaceful one to modern people." The second user wrote in support of Tan, saying, "I like this job too. You don't need to deal with people, and there's no office politics."
Tan on comments stated, "This is just an ordinary job. I am just doing something that I find ordinary. I am satisfied with my life at the moment and I will stick with this job."
