Check out the cast of Shaadisthan: June 11 saw the release of Shaadisthan a small budget film starring Kirti Kulhari, around which there seemed to be a little buzz. Directed by filmmaker Raj Singh Choudhary, Shaadisthan is based on the lives of three women from different generations.
This film tells the story of three generations of women and their struggles with various constraints of the society. The film shows us the lives of a singer named Sasha (Kirti Kulhari), a typical housewife (Nivedita Bhattacharya), and an 18-year-old teenage girl named Arshi (Medha Shankar).
The lives of these three women who lead their lives in contrasting manners merge together when they end up in a van on a road trip. Directed by Raj Singh Chaudhary and co-produced by Famous Studios and Opticus INC,Shaadisthan will leave its audience questioning their perceptions of traditions and society in the contemporary world.
Here's what you should know about the female leads of the film:
Kirti Kulhari
Kirti Kulhari will be seen playing the character of Sasha in the film. Sasha is an energetic and unapologetic character. She leads a band of non-conformist musicians and they travel in groups. Sasha’s bandmates are played by real-life musicians Shenpenn Khymsar, Apurv Dogra, and Ajay Jayanthi. More on that here.
In an interview with Firstpost, the actor said that it was a great experience to play Sasha in the film. She said that the character demanded a lot of work. “It also took a lot of work to get Sasha right, you know, in terms of uncovering all of her layers. But at the end of the day, Sasha is someone I would love to be." the actor stated.
Kulhari also said that her “bandmates” made the filming experience really nice for her. "The boys in my band in the film, are real-life musicians, so they really helped me to build this character and get the nuances right,” she said.
Kulhari has appeared in many successful films including Pink, Uri: The Surgical Strike, and Mission Mangal. She has also done two popular web series- Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors and Four More Shots Please!.
Nivedita Bhattacharya
Nivedita Bhattacharya will be seen opposite actor Kirti Kulhari as a typical Indian housewife. Bhattacharya’s character named Kamla Sharma will be on a road trip with her family along with Sasha and her band where they are exposed to a whole new style of life.
When two different generations with totally opposite beliefs come together, we will see how the conflict of liberation and preserving tradition clashes. Besides this film, Bhattacharya has performed in several television series and films. The 46-year-old actor is also the wife of actor Kay Kay Menon who has a cameo in this film.
Medha Shankar
Medha Shankar will play the role of 18-year-old Arshi who is the daughter of Kamla Sharma. According to Kulhari, Shankar’s character, Arshi is going to be the main subject of the film.
In the film, Arshi feels pressured into fulfilling her parents’ wishes while she wants to live life on her own terms. Arshi strives for liberation and independence while her parents have other things planned for her.
Amidst this chaos, she and her parents take a road trip with four musicians which leads to an unexpected yet dramatic turn for everyone involved. Before Shaadisthan, Shankar has featured in projects like Beecham House and With You for You Always.
