Bollywood actresses worst films that left us scarred: From Sherni to Pagglait, these last few years, we have seen women actors in Bollywood pick up projects that both smash stereotypes and do justice to their talent. Heroines are no longer an ornament meant to decorate a male-centric film. Actors like Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Anushka Sharma, Deepika Padukone, Vidya Balan and Alia Bhatt have proved that when they are handed a well-written role, they have it in them to deliver a successful Bollywood film.
But sadly, these women, despite having so much potential, too have made poor choices that leave us wondering, what were they thinking. For instance, why would Alia Bhatt follow up films like Raazi and Gully Boy with films like Sadak 2 and Kalank?
So here are five times talented women actors from Bollywood stumped us with their choice of films and roles:
Tapsee Pannu in Judwaa 2:
When Taapsee Pannu chose to do films like Baby, Pink, Badla and The Ghazi Attack, we were very keen on what she would pick up next. What she did pick was a regressive comedy film titled Judwaa 2 that will remain one of her worst performances. This Varun Dhawan starter was so sexist and problematic that even a 90s audience would have rejected it, despite being a remake of a film from the same decade.

In 2020, Pannu said that she did Judwaa 2, as she didn’t only want to achieve a certain box office figure but also break the myth that a girl who works in unconventional films cannot be a mainstream actor. Well, the gamble didn't pay off and thankfully, Pannu followed up the disaster with films like Mulk, Badla, Manmarziyaan and Thappad to name a few.
Alia Bhatt in Sadak 2:
Another remake of 90s film by the same name, Sadak 2 released in 2020 with an IMDb rating of 1.2/10. Apart from Bhatt, the film also features actors Sanjay Dutt and Aditya Roy Kapoor. Now Bhatt has many strong performances to her name like Raazi, Highway and Udta Punjab, but Sadak 2 was a rare occasion where she chose a role so unconvincing that it reflected in her demeanour throughout its runtime.
Sadly, Bhatt is yet to undo the damage that was done by Sadak 2 and her fans await the release of her upcoming biopic Gangubai Kathiawadi eagerly.
Anushka Sharma in Zero
Zero, a romantic comedy directed by Aanand L Rai, featured mega stars like Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma and Shah Rukh Khan. The film didn't do well at the box office and has an IMDb rating of 5.4/10. Sharma has given so many good performances in films like PK, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Band Baaja Baaraat, NH10, Sultan and Dil Dhadakne Do. Her experiments with the roles and styles had always been appreciated, but her performance in Zero just left everyone awkward. Her accent was very inconsistent throughout the movie, and her portrayal of cerebral palsy was clumsy too.

Deepika Padukone in Happy New Year
Now where does one even begin with Happy New Year! The film has a long star cast of Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Boman Irani and Sonu Sood. Padukone as Mohini in the movie hammed her way through a skin-deep role that evoked little empathy from the viewers. The film's flimsy plot only made viewers crankier. To think that Padukone did the film after movies like Cocktail and Love Aaj Kal only proves how even after learning the art of acting, Padukone had a long way to go back then in shortlisting her projects. The film stands proudly next to Padukone other bad performances like Race 2, Housefull and Desi Boyz.
The actor did win her viewers back with Piku, Tamasha, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat.
Parineeti Chopra in Namaste England
Namaste England is a romantic movie starring Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor which was released in 2018. Chopra has been appreciated for her films like Hasee Toh Phasee, Meri Pyaari Bindu, Shuddh Desi Romance and the latest being Sandeep aur Pinky Faraar, but in Namaste England her spark was missing due to the dull storyline. Audiences were really disappointed by the movie as well as the actors' performances.
