The Accident
Ashley Judd met with an accident in a jungle of Congo, where she went for her research on bonobo apes. She tripped over a fallen tree in the dark.
In an Instagram live video with the New York Times on Friday, she appeared from an ICU unit in South Africa, where she was recovering, to share her traumatic experience in the jungle.
The Double Jeopardy actor recalled her painful accident and revealed that she was in an 'incredibly harrowing condition' for 55 hours and added that she was lying on the forest floor for the first five hours, biting her stick like a 'wild animal howling'. She was comforted by her colleagues during the ordeal, handling her ‘catastrophic’ leg.
She said, “I was going into shock. The pain was really bad and my teeth were chattering. I was in cold sweat and feeling nauseous and thirsty.”
Before reaching the operation unit in South Africa, Ashley was carried in a hammock for an hour. After that, she was taken out of the rainforest to her camp. She was later driven on a motorbike for six hours and had to stay the night in pain, holding the top part of her shattered leg together. “I was at the edge of my very edge,” she said.
