In an upcoming episode of Indian Idol season 12, special guest Javed Akhtar complimented one of the performing contestants Arunita Kanjilal after she sang Chaahat Ke Diye, announcing that her voice reminds him of Lata Mangeshkar.
The episode which will be aired this weekend witnessed Kanjilal's soulful performance in which she voiced the Roopkumar Rathod and Mangeshkar song Tere Liye from Veer Zara. For the same, she was also applauded by the jury consisting of Himesh Reshammiya, Anu Malik and Sonu Kakkar.
Akhtar, during the judgement interval after Kanjilal's performance, said, "Inhone mujhe Lata Ji ki yaad dilayi (She reminds me of Lata Ji)."
Who Is Arunita Kanjilal?
Kanjilal is an 18-year-old playback singer in the Indian film industry who got into the Sony singing platform with her performance on Satyam Shivam Sundaram. Hailing from a middle-class Kolkata family, Kanjilal her schooling at St. Xavier's School, Kolkata, West Bengal and is currently pursuing her graduation.
In an episode of the mentioned show, Kanjilal revealed that her mother was her one and only teacher as she started her singing journey from the age of eight.
In 2013, Kanjilal participated and won the reality singing show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs and also has also performed stage shows abroad with Bollywood singer Shaan Mukherjee.
During the ">audition round, Kanjilal revealed that she has an inclination towards older women and love to engage in conversation with them, adding that she feels more comfortable around them than friends from her generation. Her areas of interest include cooking, room decoration and recipe sharing.
