Rupali Ganguly's Anupamaa Gets A Prequel: What We Can Tell You About Its Release

 Popular television show Anupamaa, spearheaded by Rupali Ganguly, is touted to be one of the most progressive shows in Hindi-language on television by its fans. Despite facing criticism for giving in to a stereotypical representation of women, the show has been applauded for its strong female lead, gaining an immense fan following. Seeing the success of the show, the creators have decided to experiment with it, thus releasing a prequel to Anupamaa, which will be streamed exclusively on OTT.

Anupamaa revolves around a housewife who embarks on a journey of self-discovery and financial independence after her marriage falls apart. In the process she also finds love in the form of a old classmate who comes back into her life.

Anupamaa's prequel will consist of 11 episodes and will take the visit Anupamaa's life a few years into her marriage to Vanraj. In the prequel to the existing television show, Ganguly will be joined by Sudhanshu Pandey, who plays her on-screen husband named Vanraj. The format of the episodes released will be similar to the television style of daily soap releases.

The eleven episodes will not be dumped at one go but will release over the span of 11 days, which means one episode will be per day. It will also remain exclusive to the online platform and will not be aired on television.

Talking about the online platform becoming the first to launch a prequel to an on-going television show, the Head of Content at Disney+ Hotstar and HSM Entertainment Network Disney Star, Gaurav Banerjee said, "Experimenting with new formats is a norm at Disney+ Hotstar, and this vision has led to the genesis of a prequel of audience's favourite television show."

Banerjee also talked about the show's popularity and the fan following that it has garnered over its running span. He said that the aim of this prequel is to establish a more deepened connection to the character.

The show was first released on television in July 2020 and already has more than 500 episodes. It is adapted from a Bengali series named Sreemoyee. 

Anupamaa Prequel Release Date

The makers of the show have not announced the date for the release of the Anupamaa prequel. We will be updating this space as soon as the date is revealed.
