Alia Bhatt Shares New Poster Of Gangubai Kathiawadi, Reveals Trailer Launch Date

A new poster of the upcoming biopic Gangubai Kathiawadi was shared by the film's lead Alia Bhatt on social media on February 2. The highly anticipated feature film, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali was earlier scheduled to release in January 2022, however, its release was pushed due to a surge in COVID-19 cases across the country.

Gangubai Kathiawadi is based on the life of Ganga Harjivandas, one of the most prominent Mafia Queens of Mumbai, who ran a brothel in the Kamathipur red light area. Apart from Bhatt, the film features Ajay Devgn in a pivotal role.

Sharing a fresh post of Gangubai Kathiawadi on Instagram on February 2, Bhatt announced the arrival of her character Gangu on the silver screen soon.

The poster features Bhatt in a white saree sporting vermillion on her forehead. As has been with the promotions of the film so far, the poster doesn't feature any other character from the film and focuses solely on Gangubai. It also features the film's updated release date- February 25, 2022. The trailer, as mentioned in the caption, will be unveiled on February 4.

Gangubai Kathiawadi was first scheduled to release in September 2020. After being stalled multiple times through the year gone by, its makers had zeroed in on January 2022 release. Then came the Omicron variant and the film had to be pushed again due to an alarming surge in cases of the coronavirus across the country.

The movie will have its premiere at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival which will be held between February 10-February 20 followed by a theatrical release. Meanwhile, Bhatt will be seen on the screen in another much-awaited film this year- RRR. Directed by SS Rajamouli, featuring Ram Charan and Jr NTR in lead, this period drama is all set to release on March 25, 2022.

Gangubai Kathiawadi is not the only film to have borne the brunt of the pandemic. Numerous films like Jersey, Gehraiyaan, Looop Lapeta and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 had to face uncertainty over their theatrical release. While films like Gehraiyaan and Looop Lapeta eventually headed to the OTT, skipping theatres altogether, the makers of other films waited the third wave out and are now planning for the release of their projects in cinemas in the upcoming months. Recently makers of Anek and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 announced that these films will be coming to theatres on May 13 and May 20 respectively.
