Aishwarya Rai Bachchan trolled
No matter how commendable their achievements are, women are hated for anything and everything. If their success is too great to ridicule, critics fuss about petty things that are in no way worth mentioning. Sadly, the "critics" of the present times are trolls who have little reason or even relevance to pass comments. But free internet allows everyone to express their opinions no matter how problematic or regressive they are.

Celebrated actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has time and again put India on the world map with her achievements in the film industry and show business. This year, she made her 20th appearance at the reputable Cannes film festival and made many eyes sparkle. She wore elaborate outfits on red carpet and proved that elegance never goes out of style.

She received mixed "reviews" from fashion critics and then there were people who found everything wrong with her. The comments on her pictures were a unhealthy mix of praise and hatred. She was fat-shamed, appalling and illogical comments about her "old age" were thrown in and many found that the alleged surgery on her face was too much. Of course one has to be a dermatological expert to even claim that the actor has got plastic surgery done on her face but even if it is proved true, one fails to understand what is wrong in doing whatever people want to do their own body and face?

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Trolled, Called Old And Fat

As mentioned before, Bachchan has been representing Indian on Cannes film festival red carpet for the past 20 years. She shows up in designer outfits and makes headlines. The actor started her career at the age of 18 as a model and went on to appear for major brands and big platforms during her modelling gigs. She won the Miss World crown in 1994 and became a big Bollywood star later. To forget her celebrity, her persona, her achievements as a woman and as an actor and go straight to her weight and her alleged surgery on her face is demeaning to say the least. Bollywood actors, or any public figure is not safe from scrutiny. Everything they do, what they wear, how their face looks, where they eat, who they marry has always been a subject of public debate without any logic.

What is rather shameful is that the actor went to France to represent her country, the film industry and took part in the celebration of cinematic art and all her haters can talk about is her appearance. Of course the actor is beyond such petty trolls and has far more valuable people to give her feedback but does that mean that anyone and everyone can pass their judgement thinking of no consequences at all?

To state the obvious, the hateful comments on Bachchan's picture do have consequences. If an actor of such high stature can be ridiculed publicly for her weight and outer appearance, one can only imagine the extent of shaming regular women face. Everything about their weight, height, skin colour, outfits has to be perfect and feel easy through male gaze. A woman has to be everything the world wants her to be or she will be reminded of what she "lacks" at all times.

Yes, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a woman in her 40s and has her whole career to speak for her years of experience. Like many women, her age should not be the deciding factor on how much respect or visibility she will get going forward. The actor is soon to appear in a much-awaited film titled Ponniyin Selvan directed by celebrated director Mani Ratnam.
