Actor-MP Navneet Kaur Rana recently made it to the headlines as she spoke about being threatened by Shiv Sena's Arvind Sawant.

As per reports, Sawant threatened her in the Lok Sabha lobby warning her that she would be jailed for talking against the Maharashtra government in the house. The actor-MP also claimed that she received phone calls and letter that threatened her of acid attack. Arvind Sawant, on the other hand states that he will stand with her if anyone attacks her.

Who is Navneet Kaur Rana?

Navneet Kaur Rana is a Telugu film actor born on Jan 3, 1986 in Mumbai. Some of her works include Kalachakram, Terror, Flash News, Jabilamma, and so on. She was elected as Member of Parliament from Amravati (Lok Sabha Constituency), Maharashtra in the 2019 Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate. Rana is fluent in Marathi, Punjabi, Hindi, English and Telugu.

  1. Navneet Kaur Rana completed her studies up to 10th grade, after which she started working as a model. She has appeared in six music videos and made her debut in the Kannada feature film, Darshan. In 2004, she made her debut in the Telugu film industry with Seenu Vasanthi Lakshmi. Some of her other works include Chetna, Jagapathi, Good Boy and Bhuma.
  2. She was a contestant in the reality show Humma Humma that aired on Gemini TV and also worked in Rafi Mecartin's Malayalam film Love in Singapore.
  3. Navneet Kaur married Ravi Rana, who is an independent MLA from Badnera constituency in the city of Amravati.
  4. After her marriage, she tried becoming a politician by fighting the 2014 Lok Sabha election as a candidate of National Congress Party but lost the election.
  5. In the Lok Sabha elections 2019, she got elected as an MP from Amravati, Maharashtra constituency. She defeated Anandrao Adsul of Shiv Sena as an independent candidate seeking the support of Indian National Congress and Nationalist Congress Party.
  6. In recent news, Rana was fined on June 8 by the Bombay High Court over "fake" caste certificates used to get a political seat. A division bench of the court said she allegedly obtained the papers "fraudulently," fining her Rs 2 lakh for the same. Rana has been given a time of two weeks to prove the validity of her certificates. Reports suggest if the MP fails to do so, she risks losing her Amaravati seat, which will then reportedly go to a Shiv Sena member. "I respect the court's order as a citizen of this country. I will approach the Supreme Court, I am confident that I will get justice," Rana said, reacting to news of her caste papers confiscation.
