Malini was born in Srirangam as a third child to Jaya Lakshmi and VSR Chakravarti Iyengar in Tamil Iyengar Brahmin family. She pursued her initials education until junior college at DTEA Mandir Marg, after which she pursued her acting career. Her favourite subject has always been history.

Malini debuted in 1963 with the Tamil film Idhu Sathiyam, did small roles. Later in 1968, after five years she received an opportunity to play the lead role opposite Raj Kapoor in the Hindi film Sapno Ka Saudagar. Ever since then she ruled the hearts of people. Few other blockbuster films like Johnny Mera Naam, Andaz, Khushboo, Charas, Baghban, and more has been part of her successful career. Hema Malini became the highest-paid Bollywood actress along with Zeenat Aman during 70s and 80s.

Actor Hema Malini is mostly known for her performances as Basanti, Seeta and Geeta, and Dream Girl. She has starred in a number of successful films, including Sholay, Razia Sultan, Naseeb, and many others. She consistently mesmerises viewers with her superb performance. The phrase women are born multi-talented, very well applies to her.

On marriage front. Hema Malini married superstar Dharmendra in 1980. The first film they did together was Tum Haseen Main Jawaan (1970). Malini did 35 films with Dharmendra in her entire career. Later, the couple fell in love, Dharmendra for the Dream Girl reportedly separated from his first spouse.  The couple together have two daughters Esha Deol (1981) and Ahana Deol (1985). However, Dharmendra already had two sons and two daughters with his first wife. Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol are her step-sons. It is said that Malini's father did not approve of Hema Malini's marriage to Dharmendra.

In her acting career, Malini was nominated 11 times over her acting career for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress in 1973.  Malini honoured with the Filmfare Special Award for 50 Years of Outstanding Contribution to Cinema in 2019 as well as the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000. She was also awarded with the Padma Shri and many more.

Apart from acting, she is dancer too, she is trained Bharatanatyam dancer, also performed with her daughters at the Khajuraho Dance Festival.

After having successful ride in Bollywood, Malini is known for her philanthropic and social endeavours since 70s.  Malini  along with her daughters performed in a production called Parampara for charitable events. PETA India, an organisation dedicated to animal rights, has Malini's backing. To do larger good, she turned into a politician. Many celebrities lack the guts to speak honestly about politics, but she does.

Actor Hema Malini Turns Politican

Let's get in to her journey from actor to politician. Malini served as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) representative in the Rajya Sabha, the upper House of parliament, from 2003 to 2009. Malini was chosen to serve in the Lok Sabha in 2014. Malini made her political debut in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, running on the BJP ticket from the Mathura constituency. She holds the seat of Mathura MP at the moment. Malini currently served as the Brand-Ambassador of Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerath Vikas Parishad.

Her political career has also landed her in several controversies. For instance, a land controversy, in which she was allegedly allotted a land for dance class at cheaper price. Her tweets on Vrindavan widows also attracted lot of criticism.

Actor Hema Malini has got herself three biographical books titled: Hema Malini: Diva Unveiled (2005), Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl (2017) by Ram Kamal Mukherjee, and Hema Malini: The Authorized Biography (2007) by Bhawana Somaaya.
