Indian weddings might be a lot of fun to attend but the waste they generate contributes to the rapid degradation of our environment. The noise pollution generated by the loud music and the garbage collected at the end of the ceremony are huge reasons why our planet is slowly dying away. A little deviation from the norm will help us in building a healthy environment. Gladly, Indian celebrities are now opting for an eco friendly wedding and setting an example for the mass. Here are five such couples.
1. Rubina Dilaik and Abhinav Shukla
The TV actors tied the knot back in 2018. They used biodegradable invitation cards made of MDF wood and recycled paper for their wedding and also gifted a plant to their guests. This move of theirs created quite a stir on the social media. In her Instagram post, Dilaik said that they want to encourage people to keep weddings fun and nature friendly.
"True Love nurtures and nourishes the soul! With this thought we wanted to gift "a life" to our friends to mark the beginning of our new journey and thank them for being with us through our thick and thin. The love is not only for people and by people but we both have love for nature as well hence, physically our invite is organic and totally biodegradable ! The cards are made of MDF wood and recycled paper ! We want to encourage people to keep weddings fun and nature friendly!", she wrote.

3. Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh
The Bollywood couple's Bengaluru reception was held on Nov 21, 2018. They did their bit towards saving the environment by organising the event in a plastic free zone. Deepika and Ranveer used biodegradable tableware products, made from sugarcane fibre to serve the guests. They refrained from using plastic and styrofoam as these materials take centuries to decompose. Sugarcane fibre, on the other hand takes just 60 to 90 days. An eco friendly tableware manufacturer CHUK supplied around 75,000 units of its products in the event.
4. Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli
Bollywood actor and producer Anushka Sharma and Cricketer Virat Kohli, who have recently been blessed with a baby girl Vamika got hitched in 2017.
