Carlos Alcaraz is making waves in the tennis world, and his family couldn’t be prouder. The Spanish prodigy captured the US Open title in 2022, skyrocketing from No. 32 to the No. 1 tennis player in the world by September of that year. At just 19, he became the youngest men’s player ever to achieve the top ranking. He followed up this remarkable feat with consecutive wins at Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024 and a victory at the French Open in June 2024.
Carlos Alcaraz's ascent in the tennis world has been keenly observed by his supportive family, including parents, Carlos Alcaraz González and Virginia Garfia Escandon, as well as his three brothers, Álvaro, Sergio, and Jaime. The Alcaraz family has a longstanding connection with tennis. His grandfather played a pivotal role in transforming a hunting club in their hometown of El Palmar, Spain, into a tennis and swimming club. Alcaraz's father, Alcaraz González, has served as the tennis director at this club for many years, having had a brief professional career himself.

“In my family, I think we have the sport in our blood, We all played from the time we were young.” Alcaraz told The New York Times about his family's tennis history. As Alcaraz has risen in the tennis world, he credits his success to those around him, especially his family. “My family and my friends are nice people. For me, it’s really, really important. As I said, I'm doing great in tennis because of the people that I have around,” he told Tennis Channel International in July 2023. “
Alcaraz’s mother, Virginia Garfia Escandon, worked as a shop assistant at IKEA. She has supported her son’s career and made appearances at some of his biggest competitions. After winning the 2023 Madrid Open, Alcaraz wrote a sweet message for his mother on the camera: “Por ti, Mama” (“For you, Mom”). He explained his message in an on-court interview following the match, which fell on Mother’s Day weekend in Spain. “I couldn’t buy a gift for her, so I hope she enjoyed the words, I’m going to give her a really big hug after... She’s always supporting me at home. For me, it’s really nice to see her here and enjoy her support,” Alcaraz said.
Alcaraz triumphed over Alexander Zverev at the French Open in June 2024. In his victory speech, he expressed gratitude to his parents, who were present in the audience. "It's incredible to have you here supporting me. Ever since I was a kid, I would rush home from school to watch this tournament on TV, and now here I am lifting the trophy in front of all of you," Alcaraz stated.
