Israeli mother-son duo Svetlana Zilberman and Misha Zilberman are badminton players that competed in the Singapore Badminton Open 2022. The duo have teamed up in multiple mixed doubles events for Badminton World Federation (BWF) International Challenges or Series.
The 64-year-old Svetlana Zilberman and 33-year-old Misha Zilberman competed in the Singapore Open 2022 mixed doubles event. The mother-son duo from Israel competed against Nithin HV and PS Ram from India in the first round and lost.
The duo had previously competed in the BWF International Challenge tournament, Lagos International Badminton Classics in 2017. Svetlana and Misha won the tournament after defeating Duarte Nuno Anjo and Sofia Setim from Portugal.
Svetlana spoke about the Lagos International tournament and described it as a "fine outing for me and my son who I brought up to love badminton before he developed into an international champion in the men's singles."
They have competed in three BWF International Series tournaments. In 2016, they competed in Suriname International Badminton Tournament. The duo won the tournament after defeating Alistair Espinoza and Solangel Guzman from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
In 2017, Svetlana and Misha competed in the Ethiopia International and won the tournament in a walkover. That same year, they also competed in the Zambia International and the duo was the second runner-up in the tournament.
Svetlana Zilberman
The 64-year-old Svetlana ZiIberman is an Israeli badminton player. Zilberman won the bronze medal at the European Badminton Championships in the women’s singles event in 1986. She has won the Israeli National Badminton Championships women’s singles events 17 times and the women’s double events 17 times. She won the women’s singles and doubles event every single year from 1991 to 2008, excluding 1993.
Zilberman also competed in mixed double events in the Israeli National Badminton Championships. She frequently collaborated with players Leonid Paikin, Sergey Antonyuk and Reuven Moses. In 2005, she collaborated with her son who is also a badminton player, Misha Zilberman. From 2005 to 2017, the mother-son duo participated in mixed double events in the Israeli National Badminton Championships. The duo won 12 mixed double events in a row.
