Who Is Anjum Moudgil? Rifle Shooter Representing India At Paris Games

Anjum Moudgil is representing India in the Women's 50m Three Positions event at the Paris Olympics 2024. Aside from being a champion athlete, she is also a sports psychologist and professional artist.

Anjum Moudgil is a rifle shooting champion representing India at the Paris Olympics 2024 in the Women's 50m Three Positions event. The Chandigarh-born athlete had previously participated in the same event at the Tokyo Games in 2021, as well as the 10m rifle event. Moudgil became World No. 1 after her impressive silver-winning performance at the ISSF World Cup in 2022. The 30-year-old shooter qualified for the Paris Games based on her impressive ranking.

Who Is Anjum Moudgil?

Anjum Moudgil was born in Chandigarh on January 5, 1994. Her passion for shooting began in her school days at Sacred Hearts Senior Secondary School. She then went on to complete her graduation in humanities from DAV College and then post-grad in sports psychology from Panjab University.

Apart from being a champion athlete, Moudgil is also an advocate for athletes' mental health. She is also a professional artist with a love for abstract art and has reportedly sold some of her artworks. According to reports, Moudgil is also a sub-inspector with Punjab Police.

In 2016, Moudgil won a gold medal in the South Asian Games. She got her breakthrough in 2017 when she silver medal in the 10m rifle individual and a bronze in the 50m rifle prone at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane. In 2018, she won a silver medal at the ISSF World Cup in Mexico. 

At the 2018 CWG, Moudgil clinched the silver medal, scoring 455.7 points, achieving 151.9 in kneeling and 157.1 in prone. In the qualification round, she broke the Qualifying record by an impressive margin, scoring 589 (196 in kneeling, 199 in prone and 194 in standing).

In 2019, Moudgil claimed the World No. 2 spot in women's 10m Air Rifle ISSF rankings. She was India's No. 1 in Women’s 50m three positions. The prolific athlete was honoured with the Arjuna Award that year. Moudgil represented India in two events at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Although Moudgil missed out on a medal at the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, China, her impressive ranking, presently World #29, secured her a place in the Paris Olympics 2024 in the Women's 50m Rifle three positions. Another Indian athlete in the same event is Sift Kaur Samra.
